My current work is a series of abstract paintings in acrylic , focusing on evoking emotion through layered color and texture. These works invite viewers to immerse themselves in the interplay of depth and light, and engage in a personal and sensory exploration. As part of my creative process, I continue to push myself to seek out and explore new materials. I am interested in working with the surface and investigating the interplay of new materials and paint. As the process unfolds, I allowed the materials and the interactions between layers to guide me to the final outcome. I go back and forth sometimes leading the process and sometimes letting the materials lead. This approach is a conversation of addition and subtraction, layering and removing. I built up layers of colour where each layer interacted with the next to create a sense of light and depth. The final result is a composition that is both direct and controlled, and invites the viewer to linger and explore.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Reconnecting with my creative practice in the last few years has renewed my focus on the power of emotional connection. I am an emerging artist working and living in Toronto, Ontario. I am currently completing my Bachelor of Fine Arts at OCADU. I was previously at OCADU in 1997, where I was fortunate enough to participate in the OCADU Florence program. Since then, I have continued to expand my artistic knowledge and skills through self-teaching, drawing inspiration from art galleries, exhibitions, and ongoing studies.
